There’s good news for you if you’re interested in a career as a Radiation Protection Technician. These Health Physics Technicians, as they are known in the industry, are in high demand across the country, especially in Texas. In this role, you’ll be ensuring workplace safety standards are met in industries that use radioactive materials or expose people to radioactivity.
As a Radiation Protection tech, you'll be aiding in the design of safer work environments. Your duties can include monitoring nuclear activity, collecting data and analyzing results. Beyond that, you might even find yourself working in a regulatory capacity performing site inspections to certify the safety of facilities. At TSTC, your education will progress from basic radiation safety courses to more advanced instruction, such as radiation physics and toxicology, solid state radiation detection systems and waste management/disposal. You’ll also benefit as a student from TSTC’s affiliation with the Nuclear Power Institute, a unique statewide partnership led by the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and headquartered at Texas A&M University.
